Veteran's Day Parade tomorrow 8am

We were asked if our troop could help the Redlands Veteran's Day parade to carry banners in front of dignitaries.

If your scout can help, please drop him off at AutoZone (right by RHS) at 8am tomorrow (Monday November 11).

They need more than 30 scouts, but apparently they have committed fewer than 20.

Thanks

opportunity for more elective merit badges - UCR merit badge Fair

Registration opens today at 2pm for the UCR Merit Badge Fair put on by the UCR Chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

On  February 1, 2014  - 8a.m. to 5 p.m. - they are doing Electricity, Electronics, & Programming

On April 12, 2014 they are doing Energy, Engineering, and Robotics

As far as the requirements, the website says:

Each scout should download the Merit Badge workbook for each of the merit badges they are interested in.  It is strongly advised that the workbooks be filled out as completely as possible before coming to the UCR Merit Badge Fair.  Specific prerequisites need to be completed ahead of time.

I sent an email to see if they could be more specific as to what requirements they will do at the fair.

Merit badge workshop this Saturday - electives

Please see details below.

This is not a troop activity for us... But if you are interested, there is a merit badge workshop this Saturday November 9 at the Pioneer Building.

It costs $25.  It's a fundraiser for their troop.

Please contact RJ Sunderman if you are interested.

Here is an email I got from him on Sunday:

Thanks Tom.  No, it's not too late, but several of the classes are pretty full.
I have a seat or two open for Chemistry, a seat or two in Graphic Arts, and a few seats in Crime Prevention. Electricity and Electronics are pretty open. There are a few seats open in Fingerprinting. Automotive Maintenance is closed, but Traffic Safety is open.
Let me know what boys from your troop are interested in taking.  Electricity is the only badge with serious pre-requisites (2, 5, 8, 9a, and 11 from the merit badge book).
Thanks -
RJ

Plans and food assignments for camping trip this weekend

**Please see food assignments at the bottom of this post...

Here's the plan for the camping trip this weekend:

Load up bikes tomorrow (Wednesday). Brother Ririe will secure them in his backyard until Friday, when he will load them up again.

Meet at the church Friday 4:30pm

Drive to Angelus Oaks

Mountain Bike 3.5 miles into Thomas Hunting Grounds - a rural camping site accessible only by fire road.

At least one truck will deliver gear directly to camp (tents, sleeping bags, cooking equipment, etc).

Set up camp, cook dinner, sleep.

Next day pack up, make breakfast, bike back.

Does my scout have to carry gear while biking? No, the truck will haul it in and out of camp.

Will we be riding in the dark? We hope not. If we run out of daylight, we will drive in on Friday night, and only bike back on Saturday.

Menu for 20-24 people: Tacos for dinner, cold cereal and bacon for breakfast

Food assignments:

Dinner: Tacos and Chips
-Ground beef (enough for 10+ people): Camden
-Shredded cheese (enough for 10+ people): Chris Mann

Breakfast: Cold cereal and bacon (don't you love when 12/13-yr olds plan menus?):
-Cold cereal (for about 7+ people): Spencer
-Cold cereal (for about 7+ people): Walker
-Cold cereal (for about +7 people): Vincent
-Milk (for about 10+ people): Seth Hall
-Bacon (for about 10+ people): Seth Willardsen

**The other troop is bringing the other ingredients.

Bring bike to scouts on Wednesday

Please bring your bike to scouts this Wednesday, 7pm at the church.

We will do a basic inspection just to make sure the bikes are working minimally well.

We will also load the bikes in a truck or two so they will be ready to go on Friday.
